The Thing About You

The beautiful thing about you
is that when you smoke your little white stick
or obsess about the string on your beads
or complain that i eat too slow
and tell me i don’t know how to manage my stress
you say it all with words that dip their toes into
the unconditionalities of love
a sea so deep it starts at the bottom of my stomach
and flows through my lungs out of my mouth
and into the crevices of your ribs.

The beautiful thing about you
is that the streets which i call my home
are unfamiliar, foreign and mysterious in your presence
they hold a secret that only we possess
of meanings that come from your love of
old English poets that roamed hills of green
and romanticised the enlightening of a
bygone era, bygone loves, bygone kisses
under the willow tree.

The beautiful thing about you
is the way you provide support
like the old banyan tree that sinks
its roots deep into the core of the earth
confusing gravities intentions and changing
the earths regular rotation around the sun
like you do with my heart
regularly around you, over you
with you

The beautiful thing about you
is that i could continue this
and write a million more lines
dotted with words colliding into each other
and attempting to convey
a moment of feeling that i have with you
knowing throughout
that as much as i write
the meaning which you give to me
and the world which we have created
could not communicate
the beauty that is

You.
